I caught this caddisfly while it was hovering approximately a foot over a small pond in a stream. Curiously, it quickly dropped to the water surface and immediately returned to hovering at its original spot. It performed this action sequence at least five times before I swept it. I assume that it was dipping the tip of her abdomen into the water and laying eggs. Different caddisfly species lay eggs near, on, or in the water.
