Better Living for Texans


Better Living for Texans is a program for adults and kids who want to learn how to eat well and save money. Participants attending all sessions will recieve a Certificate of Completion which is accepted by the Texas Department of Human Services towards training requirements for parenting classes. To be apart of the BLT Program, please contact our office for more information.

The Better Living for Texans program is to provide educational programs that increase, within a limited budget, the likelihood of food stamp recipients making healthy food choices consistent with the most recent dietary advice as reflected in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. There are two different series that participants can attend. They include:

Eat Better to Live Better Lesson Series

  • Better Health with Better Choices
  • Shopping Strategies to Stretch Food Dollars
  • Food Safety and You

Reading Food Labels Lesson Series

  • Get the Facts on Serving Sizes
  • Get the Facts on Fats
  • Get the Facts on Sodium

Junior Master Gardener

Ask how you can implement the Early Childhood Learn, Grow, Eat, & Go! Junior Master Gardener Program curriculum in your lesson plan. This curriculum provides rich & engaging lessons such as plant/garden learning, fun brain-&-body-boosting physical activities, and novel parent/school community engagement in a fun, teacher-friendly format.

Walk Across Texas

Walk Across Texas! is a statewide, 8-week program that’s free and open to everyone in the community! The goal of the program is to help people of all ages and abilities establish the habit of regular physical activity.  Is walking not your thing? No problem! Any activity can count towards your journey across Texas!  Simply, we encourage you to move more and any activity is better than none!
