Determined by Lohitashwa Garikipati (who described the species) who said: “This is now S. clauseni, the Middle Arizonan, New Mexican, and Texan S. californica are now a different species that was previously unrecognized – distinguishing features include a triangular lower frons with a distinctive point, bright yellow-orange in the inner margins of the forecoxae in males and females, abdominal bands with tiger-like stripes extending anteriorly and larger, more robust females. Further, the costal margin of the forewing is white and green rather than all white in S. californica (Wheelerii).”
