About 4-H Tech Changemakers
Over 24 million people in the U.S. lack high-speed internet access, and many more don’t have the skills needed to take full advantage of online resources. The combination of inadequate internet access and limited digital skills has created a digital divide, impacting future opportunities for young people and adults. 4-H Tech Changemakers is empowering young people to close the divide and provide people in their communities by providing the education and tools they need to teach digital skills to adults in their communities. In the Spring of 2021, El Paso County 4-H was one of four counties in Texas receiving a grant from the National 4-H Council to implement the Tech Changemaker program. Through partnerships with Microsoft, Verizon, Land O Lakes, and the Tractor Supply Company, the National 4-H Council has been able to empower youth to learn how they can made a difference in the digital divide. El Paso County 4-H is committed to training teen ambassadors from across the county, who will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate educational programs for adults in their local community.

How to become a 4-H Tech Changemaker
The application process will be open from Wednesday, May 5th to Friday, June 11th, 2021. El Paso County 4-H is focused on selecting 25 to 30 teens from across the county for this project. All applicants will be interviewed the week of June 21st, which can take place in-person or virtually. All accepted applicants will need to attend training on July 19th to 22nd from 9 am to 3 p.m. Additional online seminars will be set up through the Texas 4-H State Office in August to connect all four counties implementing the 4-H Tech Changemaker Program. Teen Ambassadors will begin programming in their local community during the 2021-2022 school year.
